Those who honor nature’s gifts will never be poor in spirit.
Long ago, when humans were still young and did not yet know how to live with Mother Earth, they hunted carelessly, taking more than they needed. Seeing this, the Great Wind grew angry. It blew sand across the plains, burying the paths and carrying away the scent of the herds.
People starved, wandering through dead grasslands. In their despair, they looked up and saw the Buffalo—massive and silent, standing firm in the dust storm.
“Have you come to strike us down like the Wind?” they asked.
The Buffalo replied, “No. I’ve come to remind you: live with gratitude. I offer meat, hide, and bone for tools—but only when you take just enough, and give back to the land.”
From then on, the people prayed before the hunt, shared food with the old and weak, and gave thanks to the spirits of all creatures.
The Lesson: Knowing what is enough is the key to lasting life. Those who honor nature’s gifts will never be poor in spirit.
