The Shell Watcher

Each morning, Tulaq would scan the beach, reading the patterns in the shells

In a time before names, the oceans still remembered the voices of the stars. Along a jagged coast where waves carved secrets into stone, stood a lone bird — Tulaq, the Shell Watcher.

Tulaq was no ordinary sea hawk. His feathers bore the sacred marks of the Tidelords, and his eyes held the memory of every tide.

He watched not for fish, but for messages hidden in shells. For it was said:
“When the world forgets its balance, the sea will whisper truth to those who listen.”

Each morning, Tulaq would scan the beach, reading the patterns in the shells, listening to the hush of the surf. And when danger stirred in distant lands, he would take flight, his cry echoing like a storm warning across the cliffs.

To this day, coastal folk leave spiral shells on driftwood logs, whispering questions into them. And sometimes — if the wind shifts just right — Tulaq answers.
